Capricorn's a Mission Possible kind of guy

Today we say goodbye to the Capricorn Sun who ushered in the winter from his cool mountain peaks, marking the return of light in the longest night. Hanukkah and Christmas are Capricorn celebrations of light enduring, even in the midst of darkness. Then, under Capricorn’s tutelage, we explode into great intentions for a New Year. Calm persistence and ambition to accomplish something great--sums it up for Capricorn’s gifts to us all.

But wait, before he leaves, there’s a grand finale from Capricorn’s ruler, stern Saturn. Today we have a tense square-off between Saturn’s wet blanket and the Sun’s need to shine. Your mission, if you chose to accept it, is to derail discouragement by looking at your complicity--by finding the spot where you abdicated your power.
The Force of authenticity is with you.

Aries (March 20-April 19)
Ever heard the phrase, “I got myself into this mess, so I have to get myself out?” You are the zodiac master of I’ll-do-it-myself-thank-you. And it works for you because usually you do a better job than anyone else. Today’s grand finale between the Capricorn Sun and Stern Saturn is asking you to look at a “should” that has been playing in your head like a broken record, and depleting your strength. It’s probably in the place where you try so hard. Saturn builds strong backbones!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)
Today Stern Saturn is sounding the call of duty a little louder than usual, just so you can hear the voice in your head that drives you. You are meant to shine powerfully, not just charge, head down, at any ol’ red cape someone waves around! You have the power of Ferdinand to sit down for your principals! Sweet Taurus, stop and smell the flowers.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)
You are the talented chameleon of the zodiac. Not only are you a master at shapeshifting, but you’re also able to pull off several shapes at once! Multi-talented is great, but today Saturn asks you to look at where circumstances force you into a role that is really not who you are. It may travel on a “have-to” notion. It is likely where you feel fatigued--circuits on overload. Borrow some of Capricorn’s calm persistence while he’s still in town. You’ll need it for tomorrow’s Aquarius Sun.

Cancer (June 21-July 21)
Today’s grand finale of stern obligations from Saturn is meant to accentuate the sore spot where you’ve be tolerating that pebble in your shoe for the past 30 miles! Maybe you thought you “shouldn’t” hold up the group by stopping to eliminate that rock? And now it’s really annoying! Be glad. Otherwise you might keep tolerating a condition that keeps you off balance and restricted. What is that pebble?

Leo (July 22-August 22)
Remember the story of Androcles and the lion? Well Saturn is trying to show you the thorn in your paw, the sharp injury, that causes you pain. And for you this has a kicker--you have to let someone else help you remove it! You’re use to being powerful and self-sufficient, but an obligation has crippled you in some way. Look for your Androcles.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)
It’s a “take back the night” kind of self-assertion that is asked of you now. Look at where you bend over backwards, carrying some “ought to” that hurts you. Martin Luther King said something like--no one can ride your back unless it’s bent. Stand up straight for yourself. Adopt the Capricorn way to the top--straight ahead.

Libra (September 23-October 22)
Today you will have some experience that reminds you of a duty, an obligation you’re under that took you away from your true goal. Perhaps you assumed a particular job was yours to manage, it became burdensome, and you stuck it out anyway--with some resentment of course. Along the line you abandoned your own happiness for a “should” or “have to.” Find that spot, and reclaim your power.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)
Stern Saturn is the epitome of the authoritative boss. He’s fond of insisting you do it his way. Today he’s amping up the volume on an old idea, an outworn habit, that you’ve been putting up with, but actually resent. Your resentment is the clue to where you gave away your power. Honor your ambition. After all, you’re the eagle. The wise woman says, “ask not the sparrow how the eagle flies, for those with little wings cannot teach you.” Be a mentor.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 20)
Today’s grand finale asks you to feel the discomfort of a place where you gave away a piece of your integrity, and lost some freedom to be yourself. Perhaps you went along, on the surface, with an “order” from your boss that put a chink in your self-respect. Look for the place you feel held back, it will show itself today. Capricorn’s ambition is built on Sagittarius’ higher learning. The Moon is still in your sign, so your intuition is keen.

Capricorn (December 21-January 19)
You find you have obligations that you’d rather not meet, but you can’t seem to free yourself. Come on Capricorn, your Sun is shining on this grand finale. Look your “duty” squarely in the eye and demand your power back. You have Mighty Mars as your wing man, with ammunition to spare.

Aquarius (January 20-February 17)
Today’s the last day the Capricorn Sheriff’s in town, and he’s got some business to finish. Saturn’s stern lessons point out the place where you’re operating on duty rather than authenticity. Look for an example of it. For you that place is likely some version of circular thinking. Are you “stuck” in a viscous cycle? Repeating behaviors, habits that limit your freedom? Tomorrow the Sun shines on you.

Pisces (February 18-March 19)
Venus in your sign helps sweeten today’s challenge from stern Saturn, and ensures that you lean the lesson gracefully. Notice events that scare you, put you on edge. You may have gone along to keep the peace, and by avoiding conflict you also lost the power of standing up for your rights. Or, you may think your boss is holding you back, but it’s really your fear of showing your talents--avoiding the sunlight of recognition. Ambition looks good on you!
